While one region saw their competition get underway over the weekend, another prepares for its first day’s play of the 2014 GrainCorp Regional State League.
Northern Inland kicked off its 2014 GrainCorp Regional State League competition over the weekend, with 12 teams converging on Narrabri Netball Association on Sunday 27 July to contest two divisions.
In Division One, goal differential is all that separates first and second-placed Tamworth and Moree & District. Both sides have five wins and one loss to their name after Day One, and are closely followed by Narrabri in third place.
The same picture is painted in Division Two, with ladder leaders Group 14 ahead of Narrabri on goal differential. Tamworth makes up the top three, closely followed by Inverell who trail by two points in fourth place.
The competition continues on Sunday 17 August when Associations from the Northern Inland travel to Moree & District Netball Association to contest the second day of play; a handy home advantage for both Moree & District teams before the competition moves to Armidale for the final regular round.
While Northern Inland recovers from its opening day’s play, West/Central West gears up for it’s first day of 2014 GrainCorp Regional State League competition this coming Sunday 3 August at Orange.
Seven teams will contest Division One this season, with the region welcoming back both Lithgow and Mudgee Netball Associations after a few years away from the competition. After introducing a second division in 2013, teams will once again contest for the Division Two title; however 2014 sees a twist…
This year, Division Two is purely a 17 & Under competition and will see teams from Orange, Cowra and Bathurst contest for the 2014 Champion title.
Netball NSW Regional Coordinator – West/Central West Mardi Aplin said she was excited about the introduction of the new format, as well as welcoming back two “old friends” into the mix.
“I’m really excited about the new structure of the GrainCorp Regional State League – West/Central West competition; particularly the introduction of a 17 & Under division,” Aplin said.
“This competition will go a long way in helping to bridge the gap between the regional 15 & Under competition to senior State League level, and I think we will see the rewards over the coming years. We’ve had a good response for this year, and even more so for 2015, so I’m really excited to see the region moving forward in this area.
“It’s also terrific to see Lithgow and Mudgee back in the competition. Their inclusion only strengthens the competition, and I’m excited to begin this weekend and seeing some great netball over the coming weeks,” Aplin concluded.
The Division One winners from both GrainCorp Regional State League competitions will be invited to represent their region at the GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League Final, to be held at the Anne Clark Centre from Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 September, to decide who will be crowned the 2014 Inter-Regional State League Champion.
Good luck to all the teams contesting bthe GrainCorp Regional State League – Northern Inland and West/Central West competitions.
