Northern Inland is preparing for the final day of the 2013 GrainCorp Regional State League, with both Division One and Division Two Finals being contested this Sunday 25 August in Armidale.

Eight teams will hit the court at Armidale Netball Association all vying to take home the prestigious title.

Netball NSW Regional Coordinator – Northern Inland, Monique Smith, says there have been some terrific displays of netball thus far, and the region is looking forward to the action that Finals will bring.

“The standard of netball has been fantastic this year.  There have been some really closely contested matches already, and we have been blessed with some terrific weather of late, so everyone is really looking forward to the Finals this weekend,” Smith said.

2012 Runners-Up Glen Innes sits atop the ladder undefeated after the regular season, leading hosts and defending champions Armidale in second place as they prepare to meet each other in Semi Final 1.   The winner will advance straight to the Grand Final, while the other team will have another opportunity to make the title decider in the Preliminary Final.

Who contests the Preliminary Final will be decided between Tamworth and Moree & District, who will battle it out in the do-or-die Semi Final 2.  The two sides played each other three times during the regular season, with Tamworth holding a 2-1 advantage over Moree & District.  However all three matches were decided by six goals or less, setting up for a closely contested Semi Final 2.

The winner of Division One will also have the chance to represent Northern Inland at the inaugural GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition.

Introduced for 2013, the GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition will see the Division One winners of each Regional State League contested throughout NSW converge on the Anne Clark Centre on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, to compete for the inaugural Champions crown.

Tamworth finished the regular rounds undefeated in top spot, with a single draw the only blemish to a perfect season.  That draw came at the hands of second-placed Group 14, with the two sides now preparing to face-off in Semi Final 1.

The victor will advance to the Grand Final while the other will meet the winner of Semi Final 2, between Narrabri and Inverell, for a place in the title decider.

The second Semi Finalists met each other twice this season, with Narrabri having the wood over Inverell on both occasions.  But it all starts from scratch this weekend with the winner advancing to the Preliminary Final, while the loser will bow out of the 2013 Finals.

For the third consecutive year, GrainCorp are supporting our regional communities as Netball NSW’s Major Event Partner and naming rights sponsor of the State League competitions in three regions; West/Central West, Northern Inland and Riverina, in addition to the inaugural Inter-Regional State League competition.
