The Finals of the Northern Inland Regional League took place in Tamworth over the weekend with some top-class netball proving a fitting finale to the 2016 competition.
It was Quirindi and Gunnedah who had the biggest smiles at the end of play on Sunday, 24 August, with the former taking out the Division 1 title, while the latter took the honours in Division 2.
In the Division 1 Semi Finals, Quirindi (pictured above) put in a hugley impressive performace to storm past Narrabri 70-34, while Armidale beat Inverell 54-33 to book their place in the Grand Final.
They weren’t able to replicate that performance in Final, however, as Quirindi maintained a strong lead throughout to win 65-46 and take the title. They will now progress to the Netball NSW State Cup.
In the Division 2 Semi Finals Gunnedah were strong in their 64-42 defeat of hosts Tamworth, while Group 14 were victorious against Quirindi, pushing home in the end to run out 54-46 victors.
It was to be Gunnedah’s day in the resultant Grand Final however, as they survived a strong Group-14 comeback to take the title with a 56-39 win.
