Coffs Harbour and Taree have been crowned the Division One and Division Two North Coast Regional State League Champions after the 2013 competition was held at Macleay Netball Association on Sunday 5 May.
Following seven rounds of games, Coffs Harbour Opens claimed the Division One title after going through the day undefeated. Hastings Valley Opens finished Runners-Up, having dropped just one game to the winners in Round Four by two goals, 20-18.
After winning the top division, Coffs Harbour Opens will now be invited to contest the Inter-Regional State League competition later in the year*.
Taree 17s also finished undefeated to take out the 2013 Division Two title, with Great Lakes 17s finishing Runners Up. The second-placed side lost just one match, to eventual winners Taree, dropping their Round Two game, 17-7.
The action wasn’t just reserved for on the court, with local umpires and coaches receiving mentoring from Netball NSW identities across the day’s play.
Coaches were given advice by Advanced-level coach Rhonda Stephenson, while umpires were given mentoring by National ‘A’ Badge umpires Duncan Lang, Lisa Chiovo and Kate Thornborough.
Two local umpires were tested by their mentors over the day, with Kerri Little (Macleay) and Alex King (Taree) awarded their National ‘B’ Badges at the conclusion of the day’s competition. Well done to both umpires!
North Coast Regional Coordinator Rachelle Brazier said it was a great day with perfect conditions for a day at the netball courts.
“It was a fantastic day full of action on and off the court with Netball NSW identities on hand to mentor coaches and umpires, and I can’t thank our mentors enough for coming out to Macleay,” Brazier said.
“ A big congratulations to Coffs Harbour Opens and Taree 17s on their undefeated wins, and also to Kerri (Little) and Alex (King) for being awarded their National B Badge for umpiring – a successful weekend for North Coast netball.”
Congratulations to Coffs Harbour, Taree and all teams who contested over the weekend!
*Winners of Regions 2 to 8 Division One competitions will be invited to compete in the Inter Regional State League Competition, to be played on Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 September at the Anne Clark Centre, Sydney.
