GrainCorp Regional State League – West/Central West begins this weekend with Round 1 of the competition kicking on Sunday 21 July at Orange Netball Association.
Eight teams will contest over four weeks to be crowned the 2013 Champions, and this year there is extra incentive with the winning side invited to compete in the Inter-Regional State League competition at the Anne Clark Centre at the end of September.
Playing hosts for this year’s tournament, Orange will also be tough competition to beat while they look for their 18th consecutive State League title.
It’s a unique situation for Netball NSW’s newly appointed Regional Coordinator – West/Central West Mardi Aplin, who was an integral member of the record-breaking Orange side before jumping the fence and now organising the competition.
“It’s definitely a bit strange to now be organising the GrainCorp State League competition and not participating, but it’s an exciting challenge and I wish all the teams the best of luck, including Orange,” Aplin said.
“The competition structure has slightly changed for this year, however I’m expecting the same thrilling displays of netball played over four weekends and looking forward to who will be representing West/Central West in the Inter-Regional State League.”
After playing out the regular round robin (14 rounds), the ladder will be split with the top four sides advancing to the Finals on Sunday 1 September, while the bottom four will make up the top four of Division Two as they stand.
For the third consecutive year, GrainCorp are supporting our regional communities as Netball NSW’s Major Event Partner and naming rights sponsor of the State League competitions in three regions; West/Central West, Northern Inland and Riverina.
GrainCorp State League – Northern Inland also begins its competition this Sunday with teams converging on Inverell Netball Association to contest Round 1.
