West/Central West is preparing for the final day of the 2013 GrainCorp Regional State League with the 2013 winner being crowned at the conclusion of play this Sunday 1 September.

In a new format for 2013, the eight teams will be separated into Division One and Division Two as they stand at the end of the round robin phase of the competition.

Orange A, Orange B, Bathurst and Dubbo A will contest for the Division One title and a chance to represent West/Central West at the inaugural Inter-Regional State League competition in September, while Parkes, Bathurst B, Forbes and Dubbo B will all be vying to take home the Division Two title.

Netball NSW’s Regional Coordinator – West/Central West, Mardi Aplin said the excitement is building ahead of the Finals this weekend.

“We’ve seen some terrific netball already this season, but the intensity always lifts when it comes to Finals,” Aplin said.

“The teams are all really keen to get stuck into the Finals this weekend at Orange PCYC.  We’re hoping for a good crowd to come out and cheer the teams, and see some of the best netballers from the region in action.”

Just four competition points separate the top four teams that make up Division One.  Defending champions Orange A sit atop the ladder undefeated after the regular season, leading their hometown rivals Orange B in second place by just two points.

Bathurst A sit in third with their only two losses occurring on the first day of competition, while Dubbo A round up the top four just two points behind Bathurst A.

The winner of Division One will also have the chance to represent West/Central West at the inaugural GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition.

Introduced for 2013, the GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition will see the Division One winners of each Regional State League contested throughout NSW converge on the Anne Clark Centre on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, to compete for the inaugural Champions crown.

Parkes finished in fifth spot and therefore lead Division Two as the teams enter Finals this weekend.  They will meet their northern neighbours Dubbo B in the Semi Finals, while Bathurst B and Forbes will lock horns on court for a spot in the title decider.

For the third cons.ecutive year, GrainCorp are supporting our regional communities as Netball NSW’s Major Event Partner and naming rights sponsor of the State League competitions in three regions; West/Central West, Northern Inland and Riverina, in addition to the inaugural Inter-Regional State League competition.
