With Sydney Metropolitan and North Coast holding their Regional Finals last week, the first Finalists have been confirmed to contest the 2015 Netball NSW Schools Cup State Final on Tuesday 15 September at Netball Central.
Nineteen teams made the journey to Macleay Netball Association to contest the North Coast Regional Final on Wednesday 22 July, with St Peter’s Primary School – Port Macquarie (Years 5/6 Mixed), Taree High School (Years 7/8 Girls) and Great Lakes College – Tuncurry Campus (Years 7/8 Boys) all being crowned Regional Winners of their respective divisions.
The Sydney Metro Regional Final was held over two days, with the Years 5/6 Mixed division taking the court on Wednesday 22 July before both Years 7/8 Girls and Years 7/8 Boys followed up on Thursday 23 July.
St Paul’s Catholic Primary School – Camden won their second Schools Cup title after claiming the inaugural Sydney Metro title in 2013. They overcame some tough competition in the Years 5/6 Mixed division, which featured eight Finalists from around the region.
Pymble Ladies College reversed their 2014 Runners-Up result to progress to the State Final for the first time in the Years 7/8 Girls Division, defeating last year’s Finalists Hills Sports High School in a thrilling final match to advance to the State Finals. They will be joined by Richmond High School who took out the Years 7/8 Boys Division following close competition from four other school teams.
Schools Cup is an initiative by Netball NSW to provide New South Wales primary and secondary school students from public, independent and Catholic systems in Years Five, Six, Seven and Eight with the opportunity to enjoy netball in a fun and safe environment.
School teams compete in round robin carnivals in their local area called “Schools Cup Local Days” from March to August, with overall winners from each “Local Day” progressing to a Schools Cup “Regional Final”.
Victorious teams from Regional Finals will advance to the State Final, to be held at the new home of Netball NSW on Tuesday 15 September, 2015 at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park.
The Regional Finals continue today, Monday 27 July, starting with Northern Inland followed by West/Central West (Tuesday 28 July), Far North Coast (Wednesday 29 July) and South Coast (Thursday 30 July). Riverina and Hunter regions will hold their Final the week commencing Monday 3 August.
