Sydney’s West has become a hub of sporting activity this morning with the 2018 Netball NSW State Age Championships kicking off at four different venues across the region.
Almost 3,000 players, representing 300-plus teams from 88 Associations, are taking part in what is the biggest event on the Netball NSW calendar.
This year Liverpool City Netball Association will host the Championship Division with Division 2 heading to Camden & District, Division 3 taking place at Eastwood Ryde and Inner Western Suburbs hosting Division 4.
The Championships will go for three days and will include the following age groups: 12/U, 13/U, 14/U, 15/U.
Each age group will have a Championship Division, as well as Divisions 2, 3 and 4. The winner of each Championship Division will be crowned State Champions of their respective age group.
2018 marks the 50th hosting of the State Age Championships since they were first held in 1969. Back then 44 teams, representing 10 Associations, contested five age-groups and the growth of the tournament since illustrates just how strong netball has become in New South Wales.
“We are delighted to announce that the Championships are up and running for 2018,” Claire Dale, Competitions Manager at Netball NSW, said.
“It amazes us year in, year out just how much passion and interest there is in this event and, having seen how much work all four hosting Associations have put in alongside the staff at Netball NSW, it really puts a smile on your face to see it all come together.
“Not only do we have almost 3,000 players taking part today, we also have hundreds of coaches, umpires, team managers and, of course, thousands and thousands of parents and fans.
“The aim of netball is to promote strong bonds, teamwork, equality and friendships in a safe and healthy environment so I think everyone involved in the playing, coaching, organising and supporting of these Championships should be very proud.
“On behalf of Netball NSW I would like to wish everyone the best of luck for the days ahead. We hope they will provide special memories for everyone.”
Netball NSW would like to thank the following Partners for their support of the 2018 State Age Championships: The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE), BBX, Tafe NSW, QBE Insurance and The Kids’ Cancer Project.
