An amazing 96 teams from 71 Associations have descended on Gosford Netball Association today for the start of the 2018 Netball NSW State Championships.
This year marks the 50th hosting of the iconic Championships which have become one of the biggest events on the Australian sporting calendar.
They will take place over the next three days – Saturday to Monday, 9-11 June – with teams competing across five divisions: Open Championship, Open Division Two, 17/U Championship, 17/U Division Two, 17/U Division 3.
The winners of the Opens and 17/U Championship Divisions will be crowned State Champions of their respective age groups on Monday.
Speaking today, Claire Dale – Competitions Manager at Netball NSW – said the organisation was delighted to be on the Central Coast for this special hosting of the event.
“There is always huge excitement across the netball community in New South Wales when the State Championships are taking place and this week has been no exception,” she said.
“Teams have come from near and far and have been setting up since early this morning and fine tuning their preparations.
“It is a testament to everyone involved in netball all over NSW that these Championships have become so popular and we can’t wait to see how teams from different areas – regional and metro – fare against one another.
“Fifty years ago 24 Associations entered in two age divisions – Opens and Cadets – so to see how far we have come is fantastic.”
Netball NSW would like to thank the following Major Partners for their support of the 2018 State Championships: The Australian College of Physical Education, BBX, TAFE NSW, Bioglan and QBE Insurance.
