Over 100 players from all over NSW hit the courts at the Genea Netball Centre over the weekend as Hastings Valley were crowned State Cup champions for 2017.
The State Cup, which brings the best Metro and Regional teams in New South Wales together, was setup to determine the State’s best Association in the Opens age category. The competition first took place last year when Northern Suburbs won the title.
In all nine teams took part in 2017 with the Metro, Hunter, West Central West, Far North Coast, South Coast and North Coast regions all represented.
And after a total of 47 games it was a double celebration for Hastings Valley as they not only took out the State Cup title – ahead of runners up Northern Suburbs – but also the Inter Regional title (awarded to the best-placed regional side), breaking Newcastle’s long hold on it.
“On behalf of the organisation I would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2017 State Cup such an enjoyable event,” Claire Dale – Competitions Manager, Netball NSW – said.
“It is always really special to see teams coming from all over the State to take part and seeing teams from Metro and Regional areas going head to head.
“I would like to congratulate Hastings Valley on their success and also pay tribute to all the athletes, coaches, team mangers, umpires, officials, supporters and staff that put on a great event.”
