Netball NSW has confirmed the players who will represent NSW at the 2014 21/U National Netball Championships in Adelaide.
Returning from the 2013 NSW 21/U team who finished third at the National Championships in Canberra is shooter Kristina Brice, midcourters Taylah Davis, Sophie Halpin, Donnay van Taak, plus defenders Karli Ireland and Kristiana Manu’a.
Shooter Amy Sommerville was also selected in the original 2013 team but had to withdraw before the Championships due to injury.
New to the team are 2013 NSW 19/U representatives Madeline Hay (also NSW Swift) and Claudia Russell, 2012 NSW 19/U midcourter/shooter Tiesha Ojeda, 2012 17/U defender Phoebe Seamer and NSW Swifts’ shooter Gretel Tippett.
On making the NSW 21/U team announcement, Netball NSW General Manager – High Performance Tracey Fear was pleased by the number of players who applied for selection this year.
“We received an increased number of players putting themselves forward for selection. It was great to have so many quality players that then meant competitive trials could be held for the first time in recent years,” said Fear.
“We are pleased by the depth and quality of netballers coming through our High Performance Pathways, and will ensure that there will be strong competition for places in the State Teams across all levels in the future,” concluded Fear.
The 2014 21/U National Netball Championships will be held at Adelaide’s Netball Stadium between March 11-16.
