Mkoloma, Wright join Waratahs coaching ticket

The Netball NSW Waratahs have finalised their coaching set-up for the 2019 Australian Netball League (ANL) with Sonia Mkoloma and Jen Wright joining head coach Lenore Blades’ team.

The ANL is Netball Australia’s feeder competition into Suncorp Super Netball, providing a pathway for the development and identification of national athletes, coaches, administrators and officials across the country.

Each ANL side is aligned to a Super Netball team with the Waratahs, as per previous seasons, linked to the NSW Swifts in 2019.

Mkoloma is returning to the Waratahs coaching team as assistant coach. The former Swift and England international was part of the Waratahs coaching team which reached the ANL grand final in 2016, and was also involved in Netball Australia’s Targeted Coaches Program in the same year.

She has also been involved with NSW State Teams at Nationals, and acted as a specialist defensive coach for the Swifts.

Wright, meanwhile, will join the Waratahs as an apprentice coach. She comes with an impressive CV after leading the Manly Warringah Sapphires to the 2017 Netball NSW Premier League title and taking the ERNA Hawks to the grand final this year.

As well as the coaching appointments, Claire Dale will reprise the role of team manager for the 2019 campaign.

Nikki Horton, General Manager of the NSW Swifts, said she was delighted with the appointments.

“The Waratahs are a very important part of our High Performance set-up and a vital support team to our NSW Swifts,” she said.

“In both Sonia and Jen, Lenore has a fine team and we are really looking forward to seeing them work closely together.

“Lenore has a deep understanding of how netball operates across NSW, and so do Sonia and Jen.

“Since retiring from playing elite netball Sonia has gained invaluable experience working with our State Teams, while Jen has come through the Premier League pathway.

“Those paths have given of them the skills that knowledge that Lenore is looking for to bring silverware back to NSW.

“It is great to have our coaching team finalised for 2019 and now player selection process can get underway.”

Netball NSW will make an announcement regarding the 2019 Waratahs playing roster in due course.
