Final Placing: 7th (4 wins, 6 losses)

The Netball NSW Blues overcame a slow start to the season to finish with four wins and six losses in seventh place on the 2010 New Idea Australian Netball League ladder.

NNSW Blues coach Lisa Beehag shared the court time amongst all players, keeping the team fresh by changing up the combinations each game.

The NNSW Blues opened their season with three losses, losing to eventual champions Victorian Fury, third-place finisher the Australian Institute of Sport and the Canberra Darters. But they turned it around to hold off the Territory Storm and claim a two-goal victory in their fourth game of the season.

Following a loss in the local derby against the Waratahs, mid-courter Paige Hadley was brought into the team midway through the season to replace the injured Breeana Powell and she gave the team some added depth ahead of a tough triple-header weekend in Round 4.

Despite the challenge, the NNSW Blues produced their best performances of the season in Round 4. Against Western Australia the Blues fought back from a four-goal deficit at half time to level scores with one quarter to play. The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter but when WA scored their 57th goal, the Blues ran out of time, losing by one goal, 57–56, on the Friday night.

The NNSW Blues were able to quickly recover the next night and managed to topple eventual fifth-place getters South Australia by 21 goals, 65–44. Whilst SA got away to an early lead, the NNSW Blues’ defensive pressure combined with patience in offence gave them the edge they needed to topple South Australia.

They followed that confidence-boosting win with a commanding 53–40 victory over Tassie Spirit. The Spirit had lifted to defeat WA the previous night and stuck with the Blues in the opening half, but were overpowered by the NNSW Blues in the second half.

The team was unlucky to lose another game by just one goal, to fourth-placed Queensland Fusion in Round 5. The NNSW Blues blasted out of the blocks and led by four goals at halftime but Fusion was doggedly determined and chipped away at the NNSW Blues’ lead before sneaking ahead to take the narrow win. The NNSW Blues recovered from the loss to finish off their season in emphatic fashion with a 65-20 demolition of Singapore on their home court at Anne Clark Centre.
