The 2018 National Netball Championships reached their business end in Adelaide on Saturday, 21 April.
With the NSW 17/U Team missing out on Finals yesterday, all hopes fell on the shoulders of the 19/U Team, who finished fourth on the regular round ladder, setting up a contest with the table topping Victorians.
And while NSW were very much a match for Victoria in many areas, unfortunately it was the southerners who just had more composure to see out a competitive game by seven goals – 32-25 – and book themselves a place in the Grand Final against South Australia.
New South Wales will now play Western Australia on Sunday in a third-place playoff, with a top-three finish still a very notable result given the tiny margins separating the top teams at this year’s tournament.
There was some better news for the 17/U Team, however. Having just missed out on the Finals on goal percentage, the NSW 17/U State Team showcased just how good they can be with a 45-11 win over Tasmania.
The result means they will now play ACT tomorrow to determine who will finish the competition in fifth place.
Having only gone down to pacesetters South Australia by one goal on Friday, the closeness of competition between each of the top sides has been one of the main talking points of the 2018 Nationals – just like it has been in the 19/U competition.
