The 2011 17/U NSW State team was selected following three trials.

From the original 131 athletes that competed at the Phase I trials, 68 were chosen for Phase II trials before being cut down to 27 players for Final Selections yesterday.

The selected team will benefit from the experience of three players that competed at the 2010 nationals; Gemma Ferrington, Claudia Russell and Taylah Davies.

The NSW 17/U team will compete at the national titles from April 15-20, 2011 in Brisbane.

The 2011 team will be aiming to match the tremendous efforts of NSW 17/U teams from the last two years who finished second (2010) and third (2009).

Netball NSW High Performance Manager Angela Kerr was pleased with the talent on show throughout the selection process.

“There is a terrific crop of young players coming through our pathways which was shown in the tough competition at the trials. The talent of the 17 and Under players coming through the ranks made the selectors’ jobs very difficult.”

In March 2011 the team captains were announced, Gemma Ferrington from Gosford has been named Captain of the 17/U State Team while Taylah Davies of Illawarra has been named Vice Captain.

The two players will be eager to lead their team to the national title in April after falling just short in 2010, losing the Grand Final to Victoria by only one goal.
