The NSW 21/U Team’s preparations are picking up momentum as we quickly count down towards the 2014 21/U National Netball Championships in Adelaide next month.
Head Coach Megan Simpson has introduced some match play practice into the side’s training schedule, utilising the Netball NSW Pre-Season Invitational Tournament as the perfect opportunity to test out tactics.
NSW 21/U shooter Amy Sommerville said athletes can’t underestimate the value practice matches can add to campaign preparations.
“It’s extremely important, especially for us where we haven’t played with some of the girls before. It’s really important for our campaign going into Nationals; trying to get some combinations happening, to make sure when we get there we are nice [and ready], and knowing what we’re doing together,” Sommerville said.
Sommerville is a long-time NSW representative, with the 2014 competition her seventh underage Nationals tournament. The 21-year-old said she still has much to learn, but is excited with the team rapport the NSW 21s are building.
“We’re starting to come together now… starting to get some combinations happening and some strategies going. It’s really exciting, it’s come along very quickly,” Sommerville said.
