Netball NSW is pleased to confirm the 10 athletes who will represent their state at the 2016 Marie Little OAM Shield Tournament, being held at Netball Central later this year.
The Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield Team was selected following trials throughout May with the 10 athletes selected, plus six shadow training partners, who will commence training for the national tournament this weekend.
Eight athletes are returning from the successful 2015 Netball NSW side, which went through last year’s tournament undefeated to claim their maiden title; Katelyn Smith and Nalyn Siriviatnanon have been added as new additions in 2016, with Sirivivatnanon stepping up after being included as a shadow training partner in 2015.
The side will also welcome back Jenny O’Keeffe as Head Coach for the fourth consecutive season, along with Assistant Coach Therri Ellison and Manager Ellen Monaghan, with Emily Midson an addition this season as Apprentice Coach.
The competition will also expand in 2016, with Netball WA and Netball QLD submitting teams for the first time, with inaugural participants Netball Victoria and Netball SA returning alongside Netball NSW.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce our team for this year’s Marie Little OAM Shield Tournament and would like to congratulate everyone involved,” Nikki Horton, General Manager – Sports Development at Netball NSW, said.
“Netball is all about being inclusive and being a sport for everybody, regardless of race, culture or ability and it’s wonderful that this year’s participants will get to play in the superb surroundings of Netball Central, the home of netball in NSW.
“It’s also fantastic to see Netball WA and Netball QLD coming to this year’s event, which shows how popular this tournament has become and we are looking forward to a brilliant weekend in August.”
The five rival states will go head-to-head on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August to determine who will be crowned 2016 Champions.
