2019 SSN Fixture Revealed

The 2019 Suncorp Super Netball fixture has been announced and the highly-anticipated season will kick off in NSW with a blockbuster Derby between GIANTS Netball and NSW Swifts at Qudos Bank Arena (QBA) on Sunday, 28 April.

While GIANTS Netball will play host to the Swifts in Round 1, the Swifts will return the favour in the second Derby in Round 8 on Sunday, 16 June, which will also be the second annual league-wide Indigenous Round. The match will also be played at QBA.

The NSW Derby has become one of the most hotly contested matches in the Suncorp Super Netball season and is now a not-to-be-missed event on the national sports calendar, as the best netballers in the State take to the court to claim NSW bragging rights.

Each NSW team took home a Derby win in 2018, with the Swifts beating the GIANTS 55-54 in a hard-fought and intense Round 1 game, while the GIANTS regained the Derby’s coveted Carole Sykes Memorial Trophy in their last meeting in 2018, with a 66-56 win over their hometown rivals. In 2017, GIANTS Netball secured both Derby wins and with the split in wins in 2018, the passion and rivalry will be amped up even further in 2019.

GIANTS Netball will play in three different home arenas in 2019 – QBA and Quaycentre in Sydney Olympic Park and AIS Arena in Canberra. Three home games will be played at QBA, in addition to the second Derby hosted by the Swifts, while three will be played at Quaycentre and one will take place at the ACT’s AIS Arena, when the GIANTS play host to the Queensland Firebirds.

The Swifts meanwhile, will play at two arenas in 2019 – QBA and Quaycentre. All up they will play four games at QBA, including the two Derbies, with the other games being against Collingwood Magpies Netball in Round 6 and the Firebirds in Round 14 – which will be Double Headers with the GIANTS, who will play Adelaide Thunderbirds and West Coast Fever respectively. They will also play four games at the Quaycentre in Sydney Olympic Park.

The 2019 SSN season will see nine rounds played before the competition takes a four-week break to accommodate the 2019 Netball World Cup, which takes place in Liverpool, England from 12-21 July. The last five rounds will commence after 27 July.
