After an explosive first six rounds of Suncorp Super Netball, both the NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball will go into the league BYE weekend sitting in top-four positions.
At the near half-way mark of the 2018 season, GIANTS Netball have a record of four wins, two losses and 12 bonus points to sit in second place on the ladder. Their biggest win came against the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Priceline Stadium, where GIANTS defeated their host 48-71.
Beyond that, the season has been filled with an intense slate of games with close scores, with the GIANTS proving that they are a match for any team in the league – their two losses were exceptionally close, going down by just one goal to NSW Swifts in round three and two goals to West Coast Fever in round six.
GIANTS Netball currently have the best defensive record in the league, conceding on average just 53.2 goals per match. They have the equal fourth best attacking record, shooting an average of 58.4 goals per game.
Like the GIANTS, the NSW Swifts also have four wins and two losses from six games but only secured 10 bonus points meaning they sit fourth on the ladder.
A thrilling come-from-behind win over the Queensland Firebirds in Round 1, a narrow derby win over the GIANTS and a 10-goal thumping of the Magpies have been the highlights so far.
The great team spirit to edge out an inspired Adelaide Thunderbirds in Round 6 showed the Swifts had grit to go with their expansive play, and pushing the Melbourne Vixens to the absolute limit in Victoria proved the team can match it away from home too.
