Rising star Paige Hadley returns to the NSW Swifts for the 2014 and 2015 ANZ Championships with the intention of being a “one Club player” throughout her career.
During 2013, the 21 year-old midcourt player enjoyed a stellar debut season, featuring in all 13 NSW Swifts’ games, won a Silver Medal at the 2013 World Youth Netball Championships, and has been selected in both the Australian Fast5 Flyers and Australian Diamonds’ teams.
The long-time NSW representative is close to her family and friends in Sydney’s West, and says it’s nice to be able to stay close to home.
“I said to Tracey [Fear, Netball NSW General Manager – High Performance] that I’d like to stay at the Swifts for my career if given the opportunity, so to be offered a two year deal and to be at home with my family and friends and them coming to the games to support me, I’m really excited,” Paige said.
“It was quite a disappointing [this] year in terms of our results, but we’ve got some new recruits [for 2014] and hopefully we can [finish in the] top four and challenge for the [ANZ Championship] title.”
Paige has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the netball ranks since joining the Club as a replacement player in 2012. In her first contracted year, Paige has quickly made a name for herself as a future star of the midcourt, culminating in a call-up to the Diamonds for a two-test series against the Malawi Queens, starting tomorrow Wednesday 16 October at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong.
Since returning from Glasgow after winning Silver at the World Youth Cup, Paige has been busy “studying DVDs” of the Malawi Queens in preparation for this week’s series, with the opportunity to make a dream debut in front of her home fans.
Although concentrating on her fitness and being prepared to take the court should Head Coach Lisa Alexander give her the opportunity, Paige says she has been overwhelmed by the amount of support she has received once her Diamonds selection was announced.
“I’ve been hearing so many family and friends are buying tickets [to the Wollongong test] so it’s making me a little nervous. Hopefully I can get on the court and make my debut, but I keep hearing of more and more people [coming] so I think half the crowd are going to be Hadley supporters – I’m really excited,” Paige said.
Tickets are still available for NSW netball fans to (hopefully!) watch Paige in action in her very first Australian Diamonds test match!
Get to the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong tomorrow night to cheer Paige alongside her 2014 NSW Swifts teammates Kim Green,Sharni Layton and Caitlin Thwaites against the exciting Malawi Queens.
