New South Wales is on track to continue its proud tradition of producing world-class officials, with four NSW umpires selected into the 2014 Netball Australia Umpire Talent Programs following their performances at this year’s National Netball Championships.
Bronwen Adams, Hayley Burgess and Emma Davey have all been participating in the Emerging Talent Program after officiating at this year’s 21/U National Championships in Adelaide, with Rebecca McKinnon selected into the Development Umpire Program following May’s 17/U and 19/U Nationals.
The Netball Australia Emerging Talent Umpire Program is the second tier on the National High Performance Umpire Pathway. The program focuses on the development of Australia’s emerging High Performance Umpires by enabling them to undertake professional development and identified training activates under the guidance and with the support of both Netball Australia and their Member Organisation.
The Development Umpire Program is the third tier and the entry point into the National High Performance Umpire Pathway. The program focuses on providing training and education to Australia’s developing High Performance Umpires to prepare them on their pathway to become an All Australia umpire.
This national recognition reflects the strength within the State’s umpiring ranks, after four NSW umpires recently officiated at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
“NSW has a rich history in producing some of the sport’s finest officials, and it’s a tradition we strive to uphold every day,” said Jan Simpson, Netball NSW Umpire and Officials Development Coordinator.
“Bronwen, Hayley, Emma and Rebecca are all products of Netball NSW’s Umpire Development Pathway, and this national recognition is thoroughly deserved following their consistent performances at both State and National competitions.”
“All have been in their respective Talent Programs for a considerable amount of time now, and you can see the growth and confidence they have gained from their involvement in the Program with every game they officiate,” concluded Simpson.
Netball NSW runs a number of Umpire Courses throughout the State each year.
