National ‘B’ Badge umpires Eugene Afa and Leisa Kenny were acknowledged as the co-recipients of the 2013 Neita Matthews OAM Umpires Encouragement Award at the annual State Dinner over the weekend.
Afa, from Penrith Netball Association, and Kenny, from Forbes Netball Association, were both recognised after their tireless work supporting various Netball NSW competitions, including DOOLEYS State League, State Age Championships, as well as volunteering for events such as the Oceania Netball Cup.
The award is presented to an umpire – or in this case, two umpires – who demonstrate a desire to strive for excellence on the netball court, shows consistency and performance throughout the DOOLEYS State League competition, and continues to improve their knowledge of the game.
Speaking to NetballNSWTV on the night, Kenny admitted to being “shocked” on receiving the award while Afa said it was a wonderful feeling to be recognised amongst your peers.
“It’s an honour to be rewarded for something that you enjoy doing. We’ve been mentored by some great coaches to get us to this stage; we are really privileged to be involved in a great support network with umpiring,” Afa said.
Congratulations Eugene Afa and Leisa Kenny on sharing honours with the 2013 Neita Matthews OAM Umpires Encouragement Award.
