NSW STATE TEAMS > IT IS A NSW Waratah Double!
Both the NSW 17/U & 19/U State Teams have won their way through to their respective Grand Finals in the 2016 National Netball Championships in Perth.
NSW 17/U side defeated top placed Victoria 26 – 24, in the 1 v 4 Semi Final (see report below) and will face South Australia in the Grand Finals tomorrow at 11.45am (WA time).
NSW 19/U side have convincingly defeated South Australia 39 – 24 in the 2 v 3 Semi Final – which will see them take on Victoria in the Grand Final at 1.15pm (WA Time).
The NSW 17/U State Team have toppled the ladder leaders Victoria in the 1 v 4 sudden death Semi Final today at the 2016 National Netball Championships in Perth.
The 26 – 24 come from behind victory has secured the NSW 17/U team a place in the Championship Grand Final to be played tomorrow at 11.45am against the South Australians.
It result was a huge team effort, and one which Head Coach Jo Macdermid could not be more proud.
“It was a massive overall team performance – both today and yesterday by the athletes. The girls really dug deep and did their homework for this game and I couldn’t be prouder of them,” she said.
“I feel that we are peaking just at the right time … we are really finding our form when we need it most which is exciting for us.”

“We really bought that hunger and tenacity to the court today – we worked hard to force them (Victoria) to make simple errors, and gave us the chance to pick up those and get plenty of turn over ball.”
Macdermid said she never once thought that the team could not win the match and believed that they were always capable of making the Championship Grand Final.
“I never once doubted the girls and they showed incredible trust in each other both on and off the court. Their maturity shone today especially with the depth that we have in our team.”
The team are thrilled to be appearing in the Grand Final tomorrow, but know that they will face a tough opponent in South Australia.
“We are all extremely excited about tomorrow – this is such a wonderful way in which win through to a Championship Grand Final berth…to know you have come from behind and put in the hard work to make it there.”
The NSW 19/U State Team have put together a strong 60 minutes of netball today to secure themselves a place in the 2016 National Netball Championship tomorrow in Perth.
Defeating South Australia in the 2 v 3 Semi Final, the NSW side will take on Victoria in the Grand Final after the VICs defeated WA 36 – 25 in the 1 v 4 Semi Final.

NSW 19/U State Team Head Coach Moira Gaha is thrilled with the teams performance and is looking forward to the opportunity to take on the Victorians tomorrow in the Grand Final at 1.15pm.
‘We are just so proud of the girls…they have worked hard on their combinations, their unit strengths and we have enjoyed some wonderful debuts for NSW which is so exciting for the team, the program and the State”, said a jubilant Gaha.
“All week we have been aiming for consistency and today we really stepped it up a notch…sometimes during matches we had made a push but not seen it through…we did not put the foot down – but today we did. The team really trusted one another and had lovely team work in attack and defence.”
When asked about the week and the final day of competition Moira reflected on the support of everyone involved in their campaign.
“What a great week…we have had a great group of supporters, the families, the NSW supporters and especially the 17/U team – we have such a wonderful bond between us and having them there today was really exciting. We can’t wait until tomorrow – both teams in the Grand final – we really want everyone to enjoy the moment and give it their very best”.
