Netball NSW teamed up with the Department of Sport and Recreation recently to hold a netball carnival in Western Sydney, to help spread the love of our favourite game.
Around 40 participants gathered at Campbelltown Netball Association to form mixed teams to contest in a round robin stage before heading into finals. The players, both boys and girls aged from 14 to 18 years old, were new to netball and after a quick rundown of the rules were off and flying!
Kristy Guthrie, Netball NSW’s Community Engagement Manager, said it was a great day, filled with music, netball and fun!
“It was a really great atmosphere out at Campbelltown – everyone was having a lot of fun, there was music playing throughout the day and a BBQ for everyone to enjoy,” Guthrie said.
“The purpose of the day was to promote netball, so hopefully everyone who enjoyed the day will be inspired to sign up to their local Club and Association to continue playing for the rest of the season!”
Guthrie also extended a big thank you to Emily Baird, Clair Canham, Georgia Higgins and Alexandra Kuilder – four Campbelltown umpires who came down to the courts to help officiate matches played on the day.
“They were terrific; I can’t thank the girls enough for giving up their time and helping us on the day!”
