It has been a fantastic year for Disability inclusion in New South Wales, and in particular for netball and all those involved in our wonderful sport.
Throughout 2016 netball Associations and Clubs in NSW, with the support of Netball NSW have worked tirelessly to create a diverse and inclusive environment for Players with a Disability (PWD), and the results have been overwhelming.
Over the last two months, Netball NSW has held four All Abilities Gala Days across the State, which has seen over 400 participants get involved, as well as local communities joining together.
From learning the basics of netball to competing against each other, and – most importantly – having lots of fun whilst doing so; both Primary and Secondary school students were given the opportunity to engage with netball in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
Netball NSW has also joined together with Special Olympics Australia to deliver Special Olympics Programs to individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout October and November, hosted and delivered by Association and Club coaches.
The program is designed to develop a structured pathway for netball participation for people with disabilities from the NetSetGO program into Association based All Abilities teams or competitions with a pathway into the Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield Team.
Netball NSW would also like to congratulate 2016 Australia Post One Netball Award Winner Karen Taylor from Merimbula Netball Club who was honoured for her dedication to Disability inclusion after creating a disability netball team through the Disability Trust Eagles umbrella in Merimbula – READ MORE.
