More than 700 athletes have gathered in the Illawarra for the 2013 ClubsNSW Academy Games this weekend.
The Games officially commenced this morning (Friday 19 April) with the Opening Ceremony at the University of Wollongong.
Alongside netball, five sports will participate; basketball, golf, hockey, lawn bowls and triathlon.
Hosted by the Illawarra Academy of Sport, the netball competition will be contested at the University of Wollongong Hub and Shellharbour City Stadium from Friday 19 – Sunday 21 April.
Contesting the round-robin competition in 2013 are; Central Coast Academy of Sport, Illawarra Academy of Sport, Western Sydney Academy of Sport, Northern Inland Academy of Sport, Southern Sports Academy, Western Region Academy of Sport, South West Sydney Academy of Sport, Hunter Academy of Sport, North Coast Academy of Sport, Far West Academy of Sport and Sydney Netball Academy.
The weekend is also an opportunity for further development for both players and coaches; NSWIS Senior Coach Sue Hawkins and Netball NSW Coach Development Coordinator Dianne Brown will take the athletes through a coaching session on the Saturday afternoon, then lead the coaches through a professional development session.

The ClubsNSW Academy Games began in 2005 with the Central Coast Academy of Sport hosting the event for the initial 3 years. The Northern Inland Academy of Sport hosted the event for the 3rd and final time in April 2011. The Illawarra Academy of Sport hosted the event in April 2012 and is also the host for 2013 and 2014.
