Get ready for State Championships

Can you believe it netball fans – the 2014 Netball NSW State Championships are just around the corner, with the three-day tournament kicking off this Saturday 7 June.

It’s the 46th year the State Championships are being held, and in 2014 it will be co-hosted at two venues – Campbelltown District Netball Association will host the 17/U, 21/U and Open age-divisions while the Masters competition (Over 35, Over 40 and Over 45) will be played at Camden & District Netball Association.

130 teams will represent 71 Associations from all across the State – from Blayney to Hills District, Lower Clarence to Ulladulla & District, and everywhere in between! – all looking to take home the 2014 Champions trophy.

After participating in the 19/U Championship division at last year’s tournament, Canberra Netball Association will return to the State Championships to contest the 17/U Championship division in 2014. However unlike 2013 Canberra won’t be the only invitee with the Australian Army entering a side in the Open Championship division.

As invitational teams, both Canberra and the Australian Army are not able to win their respective age-division trophies, however will provide tough competition for the NSW-based teams across the three days of play.

More than 1,300 players will take the court across the weekend, along with their support team of coaches, managers and primary carers, with the 2014 Champions announced following the conclusion of the round robin on Monday 9 June.

The title of State Champions isn’t the only trophy up for grabs when the competition wraps up at Campbelltown.  Introduced in 2009, the Pat Weston OAM Country Championship Cup is named in honour of Netball NSW and Parramatta Auburn Life Member Pat Weston OAM and awarded to the highest placed regional Association (outside Sydney Metro) in the Open Championship Division.
