Ignite the flame for netball!

Were you inspired by the events during the recent Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015? Get involved with Netball!

The netball world is recovering today after witnessing the best Netball World Cup in HISTORY, as determined by International Netball Federation (INF) President Molly Rhone late last week.

The Australian Netball Diamonds claimed their third consecutive Gold Medal with a thrilling display against old foes New Zealand Silver Ferns in front of a world record 16,752 spectator-crowd at Allphones Arena. It was the third time during the ten-day tournament a new netball attendance world record was broken; the first was set on Day 3 with 16,233 spectators filling the stands, before being eclipsed on Day 9 for the Semi Finals with 16,244.

With so much attention on our terrific sport – including our GOLDen Aussie girls in the media spotlight – Netball NSW would like to announce a range of workshops and programs for those new (or old!) to netball to get involved.

From Come & Try Days at local netball courts to School Holiday Clinics, Oceania Netball Cup or coaching and umpiring workshops, there really is something for everyone of ALL ages!

Encouraged by the support of the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015, Netball NSW Community Engagement Manager Amy Quirk said the organisation was working hard to tailor a range of activities over the coming months, with the hope that more people will enjoy our terrific sport.

“Whether people are thinking of getting involved in netball for the first time, returning from a lengthy absence, or haven’t even heard of netball before, our Netball NSW Sports Development Program has something for everyone!” Quirk declared.

“The atmosphere surrounding the Netball World Cup was electric – we had visitors from all over Australia and the world, but also all over New South Wales. I met people who had played in their younger days, others who were sports fanatics, and some who were just passionate for their country’s team.

“For all those who enjoyed the atmosphere live at Sydney Olympic Park, watched from home, or have been exposed to netball at School, I encourage them to get involved with netball. It’s not just about playing matches – there is a variety of ways to get involved, whether you coach, umpire, or just try out some sessions at our Come & Try Days.

“We’ve already begun locking in events with more to be announced throughout the remainder of 2015, but if there’s nothing in your area just give us a call in the office and we can help!

“It’s never too early or too late to get involved, so why not pick up the netball before the 2016 competitions begin from March next year,” Quirk concluded.

What better way than to get involved straight off the bat by registering a team for the Oceania Netball Cup!

The Oceania Cup is a fun and relaxed carnival with the emphasis on having a good time with friends and enjoying netball – all with a distinct Polynesian flavour!

Netball NSW encourages people of all abilities to come together and form teams to play, whether friends, Club or Association teammates!

This year’s competition is being held on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September, with registrations now open for teams in three age groups: U/13, U/15 and U/18. Click here to register.

Please see below a list of events and dates over the coming months; however keep your eye on the Netball NSW Calendar for more events as they are confirmed.
