Hunter United shooter Tiffany Lincoln was presented with the 2012 Nance Kenny OAM Medal for DOOLEYS State League Player of the Year at the 2012 Netball NSW State Dinner on Saturday night at Allphones Arena, in Sydney Olympic Park.
Stay tuned to www.netballnsw.com this week as we place a spotlight on the winners and award recipients from this prestigious evening.
The medal is awarded to a Waratah Cup player who has displayed consistent outstanding performances throughout the season. It is the second time Lincoln has been awarded the honour after also receiving the accolade in 2009.
Lincoln is the fourth player to win the medal twice, placing her in prestigious company with fellow elite netballers; former Sydney Swifts Kelly Adamson and Nerida Stewart and NSW Swift Samantha May.
Lincoln was the spearhead for Hunter United, helping the team to finish fourth in their return to DOOLEYS State League Waratah Cup in 2012.
The former NSW Swift played an important role for the team not only on the court but also off the court, teaming with Kelly Pepper to establish the team in the lead up to season 2012.
“We said the only way we’ll do it is if we’ve got a really strong competitive team,” she told the Newcastle Herald.
“We didn’t want to do it half-heartedly. We also wanted to take on some younger players to develop Hunter as well. We want to sustain it and provide a pathway for the younger ones to come through… I’m really determined to lift Hunter United’s profile and make sure we cement a team in the state league.”
