The Parade of Districts winners have been announced to officially open the 2014 Netball NSW State Age Championships at Illawarra District and Campbelltown District Netball Associations.
Netballers have travelled from all across New South Wales to participate in the 46th State Age Championships, with things officially underway with the traditional Parade of Districts.
NSW Swifts players Kimberlee Green, Sharni Layton, Susan Pratley and Paige Hadley were amongst the judges at both venues, with Hastings Valley Netball Association taking the title at Illawarra while Grafton Netball Association were presented the trophy at Campbelltown.
Lord Mayor of Wollongong, Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM, addressed the crowd at Illawarra, paying tribute to the hundreds of visitors who had made their way to region to support this year’s tournament.
“I would like to welcome all our distinguished guests, but more importantly all you wonderful netball players – welcome to the ‘Gong’!” Clr. Bradbery cheered.
“I think it is worthy of a cheer for you all – I realise that the prize has been given out for the [March Past] but at the same time girls, one and all, you look splendid … three cheers for netball! I realise some of you have travelled far distances today and I want to congratulate the organisers that have facilitated you getting here safely.”
Netball NSW President Wendy Archer AM officially declared the tournament open, wishing everyone the best of luck and – more importantly – a lot of fun.
“You look absolutely terrific and well done to everyone – I always say netballers know how to do it best. Welcome to the 2014 State Age Championships, you’re in for a great three days of netball and I have no doubt you will enjoy the experience whether you are a player, an umpire, coach or spectator,” Archer said.
With over 3,300 participants from 90 Associations in four divisions, this weekend is sure to be a fantastic three days of netball. Good luck to all the teams and have fun!
