Maria paid tribute to the players in her team upon receiving the honour.

“I was just blessed to have an absolutely fantastic group of athletes,” Maria said.

“Right from the word go at our very first training session we knew it was a special group, and to come away with the big win, in a close game, it was exciting.”

“I just believed in them and the girls believed in themselves and … just went out there and did everything right.”

Maria said to receive the award named in honour of coaching great Margaret Corbett from the woman herself was an honour.

“It’s very special indeed. Margaret’s been my mentor from years and years ago, she brought me into the coaching fold and I owe a lot of my success, and a lot of the things that I have learnt to Margaret. She’s just been an awesome inspiration and NSW are very lucky to have a person of that caliber in their ranks.”
