Australia will take a new look into this year’s Fast5 Netball World Series in Auckland with the unveiling of the Australian Fast5 Flyers.
Contesting the 2013 Fast5 Netball World Series from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 November at Vector Arena in Auckland, the Australian Fast5 Flyers will feature four NSW representatives including Ashleigh Brazill, Gabi Simpson, Paige Hadley and Susan Pratley, as well as Hadley and Pratley’s 2014 NSW Swifts teammates Carla Dziwoki and Gretel Tippett.

Flyers, a term given to female kangaroos, is a fun nickname that fits well with the premise of the event according to Netball Australia CEO Kate Palmer.
“There are some similarities between our athletes and flyers: both are fast, fit and athletic and neither will take a backward step,” Palmer said.
“The Fast5 tournament is three days of fast-paced action and entertainment so the nickname is perfect for this version of the game and the atmosphere at the event.”
The rebranded national team heads into November’s three-day tournament with a new name, logo and uniform.
“This is the first step towards establishing a new identity for the team with new name, logo and uniform.”
The Fast5 Netball World Series is a variation of traditional netball with modified rules and regulations, including one, two and three point goals, no wing players, rolling substitution, shortened quarters and power plays.
The Australians, whose best finish has been a third place, will go into this year’s tournament with a young side featuring five players from Australia’s 21/U team, which won silver at August’s World Youth Netball Championships.
Led by coach Jane Searle and assistant coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson, the ten-player Australian Fast5 Flyers team includes Demelza McCloud and Paige Hadley, who have both been named in the Diamonds team to take on the Malawi Queens next month. Along with McCloud and Hadley, five former Diamonds squad members are also part of the team.
