NSW Swifts champion midcourter Kimberlee Green has today announced her retirement from international netball effective immediately.
The Australian Diamonds Vice-Captain leaves the international arena on the highest of highs, having claimed her second World Title as a member of the Australian Diamonds Team who defeated New Zealand Silver Ferns, 58-55, in the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 Final played at Allphones Arena yesterday, Sunday 16 August.
Green, 29, hangs up the famous Green and Gold dress having played 74 Tests for Australia since making her international debut in 2008.
“On behalf of all associated with Netball NSW and NSW Swifts, I would like to congratulate Kim on a truly wonderful international netball career,” Netball NSW CEO Carolyn Campbell said.
“It’s been with enormous pride we have watched her represent the Green and Gold with such pride on more than seventy occasions, and shared her joy in winning two World Titles plus Commonwealth Games Gold and Silver.
“It is only fitting that Kim retires a World Champion and in front of a world record crowd in her hometown of Sydney.
“While we won’t have the pleasure of watching Kim ply her incredible netball ability on the international stage, we look forward to seeing her run out for the NSW Swifts in 2016,” concluded Campbell.
Having made her elite netball debut in 2004 for the Sydney Swifts in the former National Netball League, last month the NSW Swifts confirmed that Green would continue her domestic career with the Club in the 2016 ANZ Championship.
Just minutes after the announcement, Green spoke to NSWSwiftsTV about stepping away from the green and gold:
