NSWIS finish fourth in Super Club tournament

It was a week of back-to-back netball for the Netball New Zealand Super Club, showcasing incredible young talent and future stars, with team NSWIS finishing fourth out of eight teams.

The international competition took place this week in Nelson, NZ, with a NSW representative team (the only Australian team) full of players from the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and Netball NSW.

The team, coached by NSWIS Head Netball Coach Nerida Stewart, took on top NZ teams from the ANZ Premiership (Te Wananga o Raukawa Pulse, Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel and Silvermoon Tactix), as well as teams from South Africa (Gauteng Jaguars), Singapore (Sneakers), Scotland (UWS Sirens) and Samoa/Fiji (Marama Vou).

NSWIS won their first three games of the competition, beating Marama Vou on the first day 71-51, and Pulse by one goal, 49-50, on the second day.

On Tuesday 21st August, the team stormed home to win 57-49 against the Sirens, earning them a well-deserved rest day on Wednesday.

The team’s undefeated streak came to an end on Thursday after a narrow two-goal defeat by Tactix (62-64) for their semi-final. On the final day of the competition, NSWIS took on Southern Steel in a play-off between third and fourth position, but lost 45-54. The overall winners of Super Club was Pulse who conquered Tactix, 56-61 in the Grand Final.

Huge congats to the NSWIS team for a great week.
