There is just one week until the Oceania Netball Cup returns to the Anne Clark Centre on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 September.
After the success of its inaugural tournament last year, the Oceania Netball Cup returns in 2013 to encourage young girls to get active and involved with netball … with a strong Polynesian flavour!
This year, 26 teams will take the court in three age divisions; nine teams in U13, 12 teams in U15 and five teams in U17. Teams will be travelling from far reaches of the State; from Dubbo to Kiama, Gosford to the Blue Mountains, as well as a team visiting from our border cousins Canberra.
The Oceania Netball Cup is the brainchild of NSW Swifts co-captain and 2014 Specialist Defensive Coach Mo’onia Gerrard, who will once again be back to support teams – both on and off the court!
“I’m really excited to get the 2013 Oceania Netball Cup underway – we have more teams than we did last year, which is terrific, so hopefully it keeps building and gets bigger and better every year!” Gerrard said.
“Last year was so much fun; I really enjoyed seeing all the girls having a great time. It’s not just about the on-court action – there will be competitions, activities, prizes, plus much more. There really is something for everyone, so hopefully we get a big crowd down to support.”
After registering their sides before the “Early Bird” closing date on Friday 6 September, two teams have won the chance to have Mo’onia Gerrard as their water girl for a game! Congratulations to Druitt and OREO’S for being selected as this year’s winners!
The Anne Clark Centre will be decked out in decorations to create a laid-back Island atmosphere, music playing all day, and a Q&A session with Mo’onia – so come prepared with your favourite questions!
So get your family and friends together, get dressed in your favourite Island flavour, and come join the fun at the Oceania Netball Cup!
