Thirty freshly accredited National ‘C’ Badge umpires took their first steps towards umpiring Court Craft Plexipave Night Interdistrict and DOOLEYS State League matches at the 2012 Umpires Rookies Camp at the Anne Clark Centre over the weekend.
The camp, designed for umpires that were awarded their C badge in 2012, is designed to start the umpires on the Netball NSW Umpires Development Pathway, which sees the participants officiate outside their Association for the first time.
The participants came from Associations across Region One (Sydney metropolitan) and from as far as Gosford, Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst.
Netball NSW Umpire and Officials Development Coordinator Jan Simpson said the Associations had got it right with their C badges.
“In terms of the national program, the Associations have been spot on with accrediting the C badges we saw on the weekend…they were at the right level to be looking at advancing to umpiring Night Interdistrict and Division Five to Eight State League matches in 2013,” Simpson said.
The umpires participated in a range of theory and practical sessions over the two days; from Communication, Vision and Positioning and Tools of the Trade to making the most of coaching. Participants were also able to officiate trial matches during the NSW 17/U Phase I selections on the Saturday.
Development opportunities for umpires continue next year with the release of dates for 2013 Umpire Camps:
