State Champs kicks off at Baulkham Hills and Parramatta Auburn

The 2013 Netball NSW State Championships are officially underway at Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association and Parramatta Auburn Netball Association with the Parade of Districts winners crowned.

The Honourable Graham Annesley MP, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, declared the competition open at Baulkham Hills, kicking off the three-day event which will conclude on Monday afternoon with the crowning of the State Champions, as well as the prestigious Pat Weston OAM Country Championship Cup for the best performing regional Association.

Whilst addressing the crowd, Minister Annesley acknowledged this was his third visit to the Netball NSW State Championships, and he always looked forward to the opportunity to attend.

“Looking around the netball courts, you can’t help but be impressed by what you see every time you come to these Championships.  I often say about sport is that it brings communities together, and there can be no better example than the State Championships,” Annesley said.

Netballers have travelled from all across NSW to participate and as per tradition the weekend began with all competing Associations participating in the Parade of Districts in front judges at both venues.

Out at Parramatta Auburn, Hastings Valley Netball Association were awarded the 2013 title for the Masters division of March Past, while Macleay Netball Association impressed with their tight marching to take out the Parade of Districts at Baulkham Hills.

Netball NSW President Wendy Archer AM welcomed the contingent at Baulkham Hills, making special mention to Wellington Netball Association who are participating in State Championships for the first time, as well as Major Partners Winston Hills Mall who are supporting the 2013 tournament.

For the first time, long-time netball supporter Winston Hills Mall in Sydney’s North West will join Netball NSW as Major Event Partner of the 2013 State Championships.
The State Championships would not be possible without the tireless work of volunteers, whether they are working directly on the event or connected with participating teams and Associations. This is why Winston Hills Mall will focus part of their partnership to thank and acknowledge the contribution of volunteers within the Sport.
