Swifts give netball tips to Sudanese community

Netball NSW has teamed up with the Sudanese Integrated Learning (SAIL) Program in 2013 to introduce the Netball NSW SAIL Xtend Program.

The Netball NSW SAIL Xtend Program encourages the Sydney SAIL community to get involved in netball with four one-hour sessions held over consecutive Saturdays with the final session to be held on Saturday 20 April.

The 30 participants ranging in age six to 16 years, received a treat on Saturday when NSW Swifts Mo’onia Gerrard and Sonia Mkoloma went to Blacktown to share some of their tips and love of the sport!

The Swifts defenders got involved in the activities with the excited participants, from ‘Golden Child’ to shooting games and individual ball skills.

Netball NSW Community Engagement Manager Kristy Guthrie said the kids were in awe of the players.

“They were beyond excited to see them and listened closely to everything Mo’onia and Sonia had to say and just absorbed as much as they could,” Guthrie said.

The participants took the opportunity to get photos with the pair, who also signed some posters.

The program is a great opportunity for participants and volunteers to have a go at netball, play some fun games and get active.
