The New South Wales Government, through the Office of Communities –Commission for Children and Young People, has introduced a new Working With Children Check following on from the new Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012 and the Child Protection (Working With Children) Regulation 2012.
If Clubs and Associations are employing any new paid workers as of Saturday 15 June, 2013, they will need to ensure the individual has applied for this check and they present to the Club or Association with a clearance number for verification.
For new volunteers, Clubs and Associations will be required to have the individual complete a Member Protection Declaration, which can be found in the Netball NSW Member Protection Policy – Part B (Child Protection Policy); Attachment B2, to ensure compliance with legislation prior to the 2015 phase in period.
All existing paid workers and volunteers who have completed Working With Children Checks prior to Friday 15 June, 2013, will be phased in to the new check, and will be required to have the new check completed from between January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
All previous checks completed on volunteer personnel within Clubs and Associations are relevant until the new Working With Children Check process has been completed.
Netball NSW recommends that all Clubs and Associations comply with the procedures and ensure the checks on all paid workers and volunteers within the organisation are completed as early as possible.
