It is with great sadness Netball NSW informs our community of the passing of Marie Mackney.
Marie started her 64-year involvement with netball as a 15 year-old volunteer with Lismore & District Netball Association when she took on the role of Assistant Secretary. Most recently, she held a dual role as the Association’s Vice President and Representative Coordinator.
During her long association with the sport, Marie was the driving force in establishing Lismore Netball’s current home in Ballina Road, was awarded Life Membership at just 34, and in 1981 the Netball courts were officially named in her honour to recognise her significant contribution.
As one of the sport’s longest serving volunteers, Marie was acknowledged with a special presentation at the 2014 Netball NSW President’s Dinner and in 2015 received a prestigious NSW Sports Award for distinguished service to the game.
The Board, Staff and Members of Netball NSW would like to extend our condolences to Marie’s family, friends and all at Lismore Netball Association for their loss.
