The Emerging Talent Program supports athletes aged 16–19 who have demonstrated the potential to progress within the Netball NSW pathway. The program brings together emerging athletes and coaches in a high-performing environment that builds connection, collaboration, and a strong team culture.

Athletes are supported to take the next step in their netball journey through exposure to the standards, expectations, and demands of the state environment. A combination of on-court and off-court sessions develops performance behaviours, personal preparation, and positional development.

Bringing together equally skilled athletes and coaches, the Emerging Talent Program provides a valuable opportunity to work alongside the next generation of talent, fostering meaningful connection and collaboration. A strong emphasis is placed on building a positive and cohesive team culture that supports both collective growth and individualised development. 
 
The program equips athletes with the tools required to take the next step in their netball journey, with exposure to the standards, expectations and demands of the state environment. Through a combination of on-court and off-court sessions, athletes are supported to build their understanding of performance behaviours, personal preparation and positional development. 

A key component of the experience is the integration of match simulation and game-based scenarios, allowing athletes to apply their skills in dynamic environments and develop their decision-making under pressure. This approach ensures athletes are better prepared to transition into higher levels of the pathway and confidently immerse themselves in the state program when opportunities arise. 

With a holistic focus, the program balances technical skill development, personal growth and team connection, creating an engaging and supportive environment where athletes are encouraged to embrace challenge, grow their capabilities and strive for progression. 

These programs play an important role in strengthening the Netball NSW pathway, ensuring athletes, coaches and support staff are well-prepared for future opportunities while continuing to build a culture of excellence and pride.

Expression of Interest Form 

Three teams of 12 athletes will be selected: 
  - First Nations Team – athletes who identify as First Nations 
  - Metro Team – athletes who reside in Metropolitan Sydney 
  - Regional Team – athletes who live outside Metropolitan Sydney 

Successful athletes will be notified on the 21st July via their nominated email address on PlayHQ.  

To accept a place in the program, Netball NSW will only accept athletes that are able to commit to the entirety of the program. The dates for the program are listed below: 
   Emerging Talent Sessions 
      - Sunday 2nd August 
      - Sunday 9th August  
      - Sunday 16th August  
      - Sunday 23rd August  
      - Sunday 30th August 

    Emerging Talent Tournament  
        - Sunday 6th September 

All sessions will be held at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park.  

With each Netball NSW Pathway program, there is an athlete levy of $350 for new athletes, $300 for returning athletes and 2026 Train On Squad athletes.  

The Futures Emerging initiative provides a targeted development opportunity for athletes aged 14–16 years of age who are on the fringe of the Netball NSW pathway and have narrowly missed selection into the Emerging Talent Program. 

Delivered as a series of structured sessions, this initiative focuses on strengthening foundational netball skills while building athlete confidence and capability in key performance areas. Athletes will engage in targeted training that emphasises core skill execution, defensive contest, how to train under intensity, and the development of technical and tactical understanding. A strong focus on positional alignment ensures athletes gain greater clarity in their role-specific responsibilities on court. 

This environment is designed to support continued progression by providing athletes with access to quality coaching, purposeful training and exposure to performance expectations. Through this experience, athletes are equipped with the tools required to close development gaps, enhance their on-court impact, and position themselves for future opportunities within the Netball NSW pathway.
