More people than ever before, both young and older, are in search for a place where they can belong. A place to find meaningful connection, feel seen, where they can simply be themselves.  

At the Netball NSW Foundation, we’re here for exactly that. By harnessing the spirit of netball as a powerful force for good. 

A simple game of netball reminds us that every person matters. No one player can win a game. Everyone has an equal role to play, on and off a court. We succeed only when we embrace what each other bring in ideas and skills, and work together towards a shared goal.  

This is why we see netball as more than a game - it’s a place for belonging, life-long learning and unity. 

With over 120,000 registered members in 2025, netball is the largest participation sport for girls and women in NSW, and growth sport for boys and men, providing a platform for connection, growth and learning on a scale like no other sport.  

Sadly though, getting started and staying in netball is not always easy for everyone.  

Where people live, their language or cultural background, disability, cost of living and the funds needed for uniforms, registration or travel can often prevent them from taking the court. Then, at times, severe weather events like floods and bushfires take hold and impact whole communities, stopping netball altogether.  

That’s why we are here. To ensure people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and locations across NSW can access netball and the life-changing opportunities it offers.  

No matter where people live or the circumstances they are facing, everyone deserves the opportunity to connect in thrive in a supportive community.  

When people experience a sense of belonging, they feel safe to learn and develop their whole self, and often, lift up those around them. 

Eshaani's Story
For Eshaani, growing up in regional NSW of Indian heritage has at times been challenging. 
She felt different, shy, and was having trouble making friends at school. Her teacher encouraged her to play netball to meet new people and build her confidence.  
 
“Netball was a safe and welcoming space, and for the first time somewhere that embraced my height”.
Maalaa's Story
For Maalaa, from Kaurah, netball became a pathway to community and belonging. 
“There was a time when I wasn’t feeling myself. I didn’t feel like I belonged. This changed when I found netball. I found a place I was comfortable, a place to learn, a place i could be myself. I found confidence, and purpose. I found motivation. I found friends, I found my happy place. "
Brodie's Story
Brodie from Albury has acute transverse myelitis, a rare spinal injury condition 
Despite the challenges, netball became a constant, thanks to his mum. From doing stats on Saturdays, coaching his own local premiership team, and making umpiring history, Brodie is breaking barriers, becoming the first known wheelchair netball umpire in NSW to earn his C Badge accreditation!
Sofia's Story
Sofia wasn’t sporty growing up, but netball gave her purpose she’d never felt before. 
“It took a girl who felt disconnected from sport and transformed me into a confident leader who mentors and serves her community as a player, coach, umpire and committee member. Along the way I’ve been knocked down, but netball taught me to bounce back and stay strong,”

Across NSW, there are hundreds of life changing stories like these, yet still hundreds more to be written.
