The NSW Office of Sport issued updated guidelines regarding lockdown rules in NSW at 11.25pm on Friday 10 September, which came into effect at 12.01am on Saturday 11 September.
The Deputy Premier of NSW has made it clear in multiple press conferences that community sport is not permitted to re-commence under the new Public Health Order in any area of the state. At this stage it is likely that community sport will be an activity which becomes allowable once the state hits the 70% and 80% vaccination target levels.
Importantly, within the Public Health Orders the NSW Government is now referring to Local Government Areas in three categories:
- General areas
- Stay-at-home areas
- Areas of concern
In short, general areas are those parts of NSW which have had restrictions eased as of 12.01am on 11 September (also referred to as ‘areas with limited restrictions’), stay-at-home areas are the remainder of NSW except for areas of concern which are the 12 Local Government Areas in Sydney (plus parts of Penrith) which remain unchanged from previous advice.
The Government has also indicated that the designation of areas may change at very short notice should new COVID-19 cases be detected. For that reason, Netball NSW urges all members of the netball community to regularly check the NSW Government websites listed below as these are the most up-to-date source of information.
For a summary of the position with regard to sport go to the NSW Office of Sport COVID-19 Latest Information page. This page is regularly updated and provides links to other relevant Government websites.
For detailed information relating to the latest rules in all areas go to the NSW Government COVID-19 Rules page. This page has a search function to check rules by location and also has direct links to the detailed pages for rural and regional areas.
All information sent to Clubs and Associations will also be kept on the Netball NSW Latest COVID-19 Information page for as long as it remains relevant and up-to-date.
Netball NSW expects additional information to be released given that the current Public Health Order and Office of Sport updates are lacking specific detail with regard to community sport. If the information does change Netball NSW will share those changes as quickly as possible.
As always, Netball NSW will continue to provide updates as circumstances change. For any further information, please feel free to contact your Regional Manager, Association contact or any Netball NSW staff member for assistance.
