Students from across the Illawarra came together today, Thursday 11 September, for the Netball NSW All Abilities Schools Cup at the Illawarra Indoor Sports Stadium, celebrating participation, skill development, and the joy of netball.
Around 30 students from St John the Evangelist High School and the Waratah Centre took part in the event, with teams made up of students from Years 7–12.
The day began with a variety of skill-building activities and games, including passing drills, movement challenges, and activities like “Squash the Spider” and “Golden Child,” designed to develop netball skills in a fun and accessible way. Students then participated in modified match play, with flexible rules allowing more players on court and simplified positional requirements to suit all abilities.
Inclusive equipment, such as balls with bells, textured balls, and beanbags, supported students with different needs, while frequent breaks ensured everyone could participate comfortably. The event concluded with a teachers and carers game, giving students the opportunity to play alongside the adults who support them and ending the day with laughter and celebration.
