Interested in completing Years 11 and 12 while immersed in the Netball industry? If so, SEDA College NSW could be a great option for you with their Netball NSW HSC Program.
The College has four key areas that define their approach and sets them apart from other schools:
- Learn directly from industry experts and have the opportunity to work at peak events including game days and family days
- Students get outside the classroom, learn by doing and undertake activities for schools and the community developing their coaching, event management and marketing skills
- SEDA’s ‘one teacher, one classroom’ model allows teachers to take on a true mentoring approach. Teachers walk alongside your child and support their individual journey
- Students develop an individual career plan, where the focus is on developing key personal qualities and transferable skills to prepare for further study or employment across a range of industries
A selection process will be conducted by SEDA College for students to be accepted, however, selection into the Program is not dependent on sporting ability. Read more about the Netball NSW HSC program here.
Case Study: Kaitlyn Sapienza
Netball NSW HSC Program - Graduated 2019
Kaitlyn started at SEDA College NSW in 2018 as a keen netballer. In year 12 she gained a placement with Netball NSW where she supported the Event Management team for the NSW Swifts.
Throughout her placement Kaitlyn helped organise events such as Junior and Senior State Championships, and the NSW Swifts annual High Tea. She felt thoroughly rewarded for her efforts as players and guests entered and commented on how amazing and impressive everything was. “I believe I developed more independence and confidence through this role, and really improved my time management skills,” Kaitlyn reflected after her placement. “I felt like I was where I belonged. I enjoyed being able to be a part of a team that had the same interests and passions as me.”
Work placement is beneficial for SEDA students as well as the partners. SEDA students are exposed to experiences that encourage their career growth and passion for sport, and the partners are able to utilise students’ skills to help within their workplace. At the time of her placement her supervisor, Kristine Genovese-Jones, commented, “Kaitlyn has been an asset to the Events team. Her positive, can-do attitude is a breath of fresh air. She is willinging to participate in any task given to her.”
Following on from her successful placement, Kaitlyn was successful in her application for a full time position with Netball NSW, and is now in her second year working full time as the Metro Development Officer for Netball NSW.
