18-year-old netballer Tynisha Faasisila has taken an exciting step for her future by applying for the all-new Netball NSW Sport and Business Program, powered by SEDA.
Faasisila currently attends St Brigid's Catholic College on the Central Coast, and has been playing netball since she was eight years old. After reaching the end of her season, and now nearing high school graduation, she is set to pursue her passion both on the court and in the classroom through this innovative program.
“My mum gets emails from Netball NSW, and forwarded one about the new program to me… I just said, why not? Let’s go and see what it’s about,” Faasisila recalls when first hearing about the program.
As well as her own curiosity, Faasisila was encouraged to pursue the program by her teammates, who have had positive experiences with other SEDA programs.
With this in mind, she attended the Open Day for the program at Netball Central, where she had the opportunity to ask questions and explore comprehensively what the program had to offer. Faasisila then made the decision to apply, and hasn’t looked back since.
“What’s probably the most intriguing about it is the fact that it’s integrating sport, business, and education together… it aligns really well with some of the career paths I’ve been looking at,” she shared.
Faasisila is particularly excited about the program’s practical components, and is looking forward to “sitting in on some of the high-level training sessions, and undertaking internships and projects that involve working with professional athletes and teams”. She believes these hands-on experiences will be invaluable learning experiences, which will develop integral skills for sports management.
“I feel like the specialised teaching will enhance my skills and, I will learn how to manage and market sports-related enterprises,” Faasisila said, explaining how this dual focus makes the program an attractive option for students with a passion for sports or an interest in the business side of the industry.
Faasisila encourages others, whether they are athletes or simply passionate about sports and business, to consider this program and the unique opportunities it entails.
“I have actually mentioned it to two other girls that I know are in a similar situation to me—currently in year 12, love their netball, not quite sure what they want to do but they do want to be involved in sport,” she added.
The Netball NSW Sport and Business Program, powered by SEDA, offers an invaluable opportunity for students to learn from experts in the industry of sport and business.
For Faasisila, the program represents a significant step toward achieving her career goals, allowing her to develop key enterprise skills in harmony with her passion for netball. Her story serves as an inspiration and example for all young adults who are eager to combine their love for sport with a solid business education, and become a well-rounded professional in the sporting world.
If you’re considering a career in the business of sport, and want to learn more about this exciting opportunity, don’t miss the next information session held Thursday, 12th September at Netball Central.
