The Marie Little Shield is an annual tournament that provides women with an intellectual disability the chance to compete at a National level. Named after disability netball pioneer, Marie Little OAM, the competition sees teams from each state compete.
Every year Netball NSW selects a team to represent the state at the Marie Little Shield National Tournament. Netball NSW has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years and have been crowned the champions in four of the last five Marie Little Shield tournaments.
Netball NSW selects a representative team and training partners to train fortnightly from May to September, to develop individual skills and team building. Specialised coaches and support staff are also selected to support on and off the court and maximise the experience of each athlete.
Following two rounds of trials which showcased a wealth of skill, game sense and team work, a team of 11 players was selected to represent Netball NSW at the 2021 Marie Little Shield Tournament which will be held in Sydney from Sunday 26th – Tuesday 28th September.
A further 9 players were selected as Marie Little Shield training partners.
Congratulations to all Marie Little Shield players, coaching and support staff selected.
