The rain might have come but it didn't dampen spirits at Day 1 of the 2022 HART Junior State Titles, which has concluded at the Penrith District and Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Associations.
Taking place for the first time since 2019 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the three-day tournament is a vital part of the Netball NSW pathway and showcases the strength of grassroots netball with representative players, umpires and officials from all over the state coming together take part.
Penrith is welcoming teams from Divisions 1 & 2 of 12U, 13U and 14U categories, while Baulkham Hills is hosting Divisions 3 & 4 of the same age groups.
Like the Senior State Titles last month, which debuted Male Divisions, the Junior Titles in 2022 has an inaugural Boys comeptition.
Below is a quick overview of how each division is shaping up after one day of action. For full fixtures and results please visit the PlayHQ Page and use the navigation menu to select Divisions.
Netball NSW would like to thank HART Sport, Naming Rights Partner of the Junior State Titles, for their continued support.
14U DIVISIONS
Division 1: Sutherland Shire are leading the way here, winning all six of their games on Day 1 to sit on top of the table. However, there are plenty of teams in the chasing pack with Northern Suburbs, Penrith, Baulkham Hills, Randwick, Campbelltown and Liverpool sitting from second to seventh in the order listed. Each of those six teams have five wins, one loss and are only separated by goal percentage.
Division 2: Hills District were the toast of Day 1 in this Division, winning all six games but Lakeside and Nambucca Valley are breathing down their necks in second and third respectively – just one game behind. Barellan & District, Wagga Wagga, Orange, Hawkesbury City and Callaghan District are the teams in hot pursuit of the leading group.
Division 3: Scone & District put in a fine performance on Day 1, winning all five of their games to sit on top of Division 3, just ahead of Ballina (who also have five wins) on goal percentage. Muswellbrook (third) and Cessnock (fourth) are only one game behind the top two, but Eurobodalla, Griffith and Nelson Bay are all in good positions to make a run at the top.
Division 4: Day 1 was all about Kurri Kurri who produced a 100% showing with six wins, but Kiama are well poised to make a beeline for top spot with five wins. Just behind the top two Woolgoogla District, Inverell, Blayney & District, Sapphire Coast, Casino and Armidale are all on eight points and in the running for honours.
13U DIVISIONS
Division 1: Sutherland are leading the way here after one day of play but only on goal percentage ahead of Wyong (second) and Liverpool (third). All three teams registered six wins from six games with Manly Warringah – who only had one loss on Saturday – rounding out the top four.
Division 2: Only goal percentage can separate the top three in this Division too with Lakeside (first), Hills District (second) and Hastings Valley (third) all scoring six wins on Day 1. Orange, who dropped one game, sit in fourth with Maitland, Hawkesbury and Barellan all in good positions to rise up the ladder.
Division 3: Cessnock were the standout team on the first day of play, winning all six games to sit one win clear of Grafton in second. Eurobodalla and Ballina sit third and fourth, just a point behind, while Shoalhaven, Coffs Harbour and Singleton are well in striking distance of the teams on top.
Division 4: It’s probably the tightest Division in the entire Junior State Titles competition with four teams producing 100% performances on the first day. Only goal percentage separates the following sides: Nelson Bay (first), Kurri Kurri (second), Kiama (third) and Lower Clarence (fourth).
12U DIVISIONS
Division 1: Another great showing from Sutherland Shire here, but they only lead this Division thanks to superior goal difference ahead of Randwick (second) and Ku-ring-gai (third). All three sides won have 6-0 records after Day 1 with Wyong (fourth) and Manly Warringah (fifth) in hot pursuit with five wins each.
Division 2: There were five standout teams on Day 1, including two with 100% records. Barellan & District lead the way here, winning six from six to lead Wagga Wagga (second) on goal percentage. In the chasing pack Maitland (third), Lakeside (fourth) and Hastings Valley (fifth) all registered five wins.
Division 3: Southern Highlands (first) and Cessnock (second) won all of their games on Day 1, but Shoalhaven and Ballina – who both only lost once – are hot on their heels. Coffs Harbour (fifth) lead a big chasing pack that could make a run later in the weekend.
Division 4: Nelson Bay (first), Kurri Kurri (second) and Kiama (third) all won six games each on Day 1, with the next best team – Sapphire Coast in fourth – managing three wins, a draw and one loss.
BOYS COMPETITION
Liverpool City have really hit the ground running in the inaugural Junior Boys competition. They sit top of the table with five wins and one loss to their name, but they have the team from the Hunter hot on their heels. The latter have four wins, one draw and one loss after Day 1 to sit in second, with Davidson in third and the Western Sydney Warriors in fourth.
