A super weekend of umpire education was had at Netball Central in Sydney Olympic Park last weekend, Saturday and Sunday 26-27 March.
On Saturday Netball NSW hosted 48 umpires for a B Camp with umpires travelling from as far as Lismore, Griffith and Barellan to take part.
The Camp was presented by Lauren Hill, Sue Floro and Chris Hall, and - in a sign of the times - there were presenations over Zoom.
The umpires taking part were challenged with numerous tasks including creating a training drill, goal setting, self motivation, coaching techniques while they also took part in a robust forum on the rules of the game.
"I loved the inclusion of ‘how to coach umpires’ in this session," participant Adele Kozak said.
"Being able to teach something strengthens your understanding of it and ability to implement it... it's a very useful tool."
Participants were also able to watch the part of the PacificAus series Grand Final to observe how international umpires applied their craft
The B Camp was followed by the C Camp on the Sunday with a smaller group of umpires but, nevertheless, they came from far and wide with some travelling from Coffs Harbour.
Presented by Hall, Renee Turner, Emma Corfield and Jodie Correia, the umpires were able to observe the NSW Nationals officials in action during training matches.
In 2022 the C Camp program focused on umpire fitness, positioning, vision, procedures, protocol and pathways, while there was an in-depth rules forum included too.
Netball NSW would like to thank everyone involved in what was a very productive weekend of learning.
