Netball NSW is excited to announce that the Super Shot will be introduced for the first time in the Netball NSW Premier League this season, bringing an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the State’s premier pathway competition.
The Premier League features 10 licensees competing each Wednesday night at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park.
As the pinnacle pathway competition in the State, it showcases the best current and emerging talent, providing a pre-elite platform for players, coaches, officials, and administrators, and bridging the way to the high-performance pathway and ultimately Suncorp Super Netball.
The Super Shot, already a highlight in Suncorp Super Netball and other national leagues around the world, will now be active in the Premier League for the first time.
Goal attacks and goal shooters will have the opportunity to score two points from a designated zone within the goal circle, active during the final five minutes of each quarter.
This exciting addition is designed to reward attacking play, introduce new tactical opportunities, and elevate the entertainment value for players and fans alike.
Stacy Harding, Netball NSW General Manager of Competitions said:
"We are thrilled to bring the Super Shot to the Premier League.
“This rule innovation adds an exciting new dimension to the game, encouraging players to showcase their skills and creativity in attack.
“Since the Premier League started we are very proud of the amount of athletes who have gone on to play for the NSW Swifts, the GIANTS and the Australian Diamonds.
“Super Netball is a competition where the two-point shot can break a game wide open. It is part of our role to ensure Premier League athletes are prepared for what could come down the line and I am delighted that our licensees and athletes are embracing this development.
“We can’t wait to see the excitement it will build in matches each week."
2025 Opens Premier League Champions Manly Warringah Sapphire Head Coach Mel Clark is looking forward to the new addition:
"The introduction of the Super Shot is an exciting evolution for the competition and adds an interesting strategic element to the game.
"It forces teams to be more adaptable and think carefully about game management, when to take risks and how to manage momentum swings, particularly in terms of scoring strategies and late-quarter decision-making. For players it rewards confidence, composure and execution under pressure. It will also challenge teams defensively to be very deliberate in how they limit an opponent’s access to Super Shot opportunities.
"Aligning the NSW Premier League rules with the SSN ensures that it continues to be a strong development platform for future SSN players. It allows emerging athletes to build familiarity with the rules, develop tactical awareness and decision-making within the same context they will encounter at SSN level, creating a more seamless transition to elite competition.
"The Super Shot will impact how teams execute their attacking and defensive structures, and it will be a key consideration in match preparation throughout the season - we are excited!"
By introducing the Super Shot for the first time, Netball NSW continues to strengthen the Premier League as a high-performance pathway that aligns with Suncorp Super Netball.
